Lifetime's Premiere of Coco Chanel, starring Shirley MacLaine was, in my opinion, a hit. Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was and still is fashion royalty. The story starts at her humble beginnings in France to the height of her empire of Chanel. Many of us may be unaware that Coco Chanel actually started designing and selling hats then added clothing years later. In 1922, Chanel introduced Chanel No. 5 perfume, which is still popular today. Chanel was the first of many fashion designers to sell perfume alongside their fashion collection. The influential Chanel suit was launched in 1924, which consists of a knee length skirt and a boxy style jacket, accesssorized with gold buttons and streams of long pearls. Chanel popularized the little black dress in 1926, which could go from day to night. I know every fashionable woman owns a little black dress; so Coco Chanel continues to influence the fashion world even today.
